Jana Gheuens graduated from the University of Ghent, Belgium with a Bachelor in Political Science and a Master in European Studies with a focus on EU climate policy. She then continued her education with a Master in Global Environmental History at Uppsala University, Sweden. During her time there she focused on the relationship between landscape and identity on island states in the Pacific. For her thesis, she spent two months doing fieldwork in Kiribati on this topic.
Jana has previously interned at the Belgium Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya where she worked on political and multilateral affairs. During her time at UNU-INWEH, Jana will be working under the supervision of Dr. Nidhi Nagabhatla and Dr. Duminda Perera. She will focus on the impact of water-related SDG’s on Small Island Developing States and she contribute to the GlobalSeaweedSTAR programme, a collaborative programme with Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS), UK.
