Shu Yu is a Chinese national with a passion for water-related issues. She is currently pursuing a course-based graduate program (M.Eng in Civil Engineering) at University of Ottawa, Canada. Focus on water resources is a part of her study program and of the tasks she is assigned at UNU INWEH. She completed a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry in Northeast Forest University, China and was an exchange student with National Chung Hsing University and completed Master’s degree in Ecology in Beijing Forestry University in China. She has published five papers focusing on ecology, while she was employed with National Forestry Bureau of China and worked on forest economic development gaining hands-on experience on science-policy issues. Her diverse background spans from Forestry to Civil Engineering providing her a good understanding of multifaceted aspects in development.
Shu Yu joined UNU-INWEH as an ELE Scholar and works under the co-supervision of Dr. Duminda Perera and Prof. Ousmane Seidou, Ottawa University (UNU-INWEH, Adjunct Professor), on the study of evaluation of operational flood forecasting systems in different parts of the world to identify their benefits to the society upon their implementation costs.
