Building Ecosystem Capacities (closed project)

The key focus of this project is to identify institutional and human capacity gaps in effective management of ecosystems, and to undertake initiatives with the partner institutions to address those gaps. Specific activities within the project focus on integrated water resources management, sustainable management of mangroves and integrated management of dryland ecosystems.

The Water Learning Centre

The Water Learning Centre (WLC) is a distance-education program focused on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) with thematic coverage on: sustainable water management, water-health, and climate change. The WLC has been in operation for a decade and has successfully provided over 140 students graduate with a United Nations University Diploma in IWRM in South East Asia, Middle East, Latin America, and the east African regions. The International Training Course on Coastal Biodiversity in Mangrove Ecosystems

The International Training Course on Coastal Biodiversity in Mangrove Ecosystems has a particular emphasis given to teaching the methodology for assessing, monitoring, and conserving coastal biodiversity in the South and South East Asian region. Parallel online activities include those at the Latin America School for Protected Areas at the University of International Cooperation in Costa Rica and with The Nature Conservancy (TNC). The International Masters Programme on Integrated Dryland Management

The International Masters Programme on Integrated Dryland Management, in operation since 2006, is a multi-partner initiative designed to enhance the capacity of developing countries to manage their drylands resources. Overall, the project activities are directed to upgrade knowledge on natural resource management concepts and practices, with current focus on coastal systems. Visit here for more information.
