UNU-INWEH organized an Expert Consultation Meeting of the UN-Water Task Force on Unconventional Water Resources (13 November 2019), and participated in the first International Symposium on the Use of Unconventional Waters for Achieving Food Security (14-15 November 2019), organised by FAO and supported by the Government of Spain. Both events were held in Madrid, Spain.
The expert meeting was attended by more than 10 professionals from the UNU (UNU-INWEH and UNU-FLORES), international, and academic institutions, and was part of the process of development of the UN-Water analytical brief on unconventional water resources.
The FAO symposium was attended by more than 150 professionals. Vladimir Smakhtin facilitated the session “Scaling up technology and innovation” where 5 experts gave presentations on technological innovations on different types of unconventional water resources. Manzoor Qadir gave a presentation “Harvesting water from fog to alleviate local water scarcity” in the same session.
