Gufran is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Sustainable Water Management (with a focus on water, food and energy nexus) at Tufts University, USA. Prior to the current program at Tufts, he obtained a Master’s degree in environmental policy and management from Bahria University Islamabad, where his research was on “Investigating the concentration and chemical characterization of PM10 in Islamabad Pakistan. Gufran holds a bachelor’s degree in Biosciences from the COMSATS with a research focusing on breast cancer. Prior to coming to Tufts, Gufran worked with the Climate Change and Atmospheric Research Group (C-CARGO) where he worked on various national and international air quality monitoring projects. He also briefly worked as a graduate research assistant with the Institute of Space Technology in Pakistan where he worked on winter fog monitoring project. Apart from this Gufran has awarded three times with young scientist travel grant from NASA, NSF and University of Colorado to present his research and attend training sessions worldwide. Gufran is enthusiastic that he will achieve the same recognition while working with the water domain. Gufran is particularly interested in topics around the water scarcity and quality issues under changing climatic conditions, and how small-scale farming in the developing world is influenced by it. He is eager learning more about the policy and technological tools for addressing water related issues on local and regional scales. More specifically on alleviating global water scarcity through unconventional water resources and technologies. While at UNU-INWEH, Gufran will be working on Unconventional Water Resources project under the supervision of Dr. Manzoor Qadir.
