Sami Kurani

Sami Kurani is a Masters student with the Health Geomatics Lab at McMaster University, completing an MSc in Geography. His main research interests include spatial analysis, modelling, and visualizing health and environmental information. Currently, his graduate research is focusing on constructing a population distribution model for rural Alberta, to be used by policy makers when planning for natural disasters.
 
Working as a MUST Scholar at UNU-INWEH, Sami will be under the supervision of Dr. Hamid Mehmood, where he will be leveraging big data and cloud computing platforms, specifically Google Earth Engine, to study the pattern of historic floods in Ontario and abroad.
